NCAA College Cup, Philadelphia, Finals and Semi Finals
Cotronei, Italy
An avid soccer player as a kid, I had no idea when I decided to attend Indiana University that it was such a collegiate soccer power. When I arrived in Bloomington my work at the local PBS station included covering home games, and back in the D.C. area I would call out Indiana grads playing in the NASL while I worked on TV productions for Anheuser Sports marketing at RFK stadium. After switching over to print journalism I had a steady stream of assignments covering games and the first of my almost ten NCAA championships covering IU in 1988, and covering two national team games in the early 90's.
On a visit to Italy I was surprised to see the local team had an upgraded stadium and managed to cover a couple of games too. Sadly my one attempt to cover a bigger game ran into the obstacle of not being credentialed by FIFA, but I managed to find a window in the hospital next door that I could open and shoot through.
