Over the years I've covered more football games than I can remember. High school, college, professional. It is easily the most physically demanding event to photograph, between the heavy equipment and all the running. At least people aren't trying to tackle you when you dash to change field position as the play moves across the 50-yard line.
The bulk of my still photography of football was covering Indiana University at home and around the midwest. I had the good fortune to be there during the Bill Mallory era so I even managed to shoot some bowl games. Prior to my time at IU I also worked on a variety of television productions of football games for national and regional networks. Since moving to New York my access to games has diminished to the occasional Navy game as I have expanded my coverage to other areas. The demand for photos drops quickly when you leave a college town that tracks the seasons by sports.
